Ultraviolet disinfection is a good alternative to chlorine disinfection. Using of chlorine, chlorine dioxide, hypochlorite and other chemicals that are designed to disinfect liquids may harm human health and the environment. Comprehensively researched and tested technology of UV disinfection is based on the application of a narrow part of the radiation spectrum. UV-radiation with the wavelength of 200-400 nm has great practical benefits. This radiation has a wide range of applications and can be used, in particular, for disinfecting water, inactivating harmful microorganisms in liquids, on surfaces and in the air. Spectrum range "C" UV radiation has the most distinct bactericidal effect. Radiation with the wavelength of 254 nm impacts directly on nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) of the microorganisms. As a result of irreversible changes in DNA, cell division process stops. It loses the ability to reproduce and, thus, loses its pathogenic properties. UV radiation can destroy more than 99.99% of all pathogenic organisms within a few seconds of action without using chemicals, harmful side effects. It is inexpensive, effective andabsolutely reliable.
The equipment is a complex reactor systems based on UV lamps, from which the radiation processes water flows entering to the plant. Each UV lamp is placed in a waterproof case made of quartz glass, which does not prevent the passage of ultraviolet rays. UV dose and the number of lamps for each individual area of application is calculated separately and depends on the consumption and characteristics of the treated water, type of biological organisms in incoming water, as well as requirements for the microbiological composition of the disinfected water.
