Chlorine dioxide plants

LWT Engineering carries out the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of сhlorine dioxide production plants.

Disinfection of water with chlorine dioxide is a highly effective and gentle way to fight legionella bacteria and all types of pathogenic microorganisms in water, such as viruses, parasites and fungal spores.

Chlorine dioxide kills microorganisms in water by irreversible oxidative destruction of transport proteins in living cells. Chlorine dioxide has a much stronger disinfectant effect against all types of microbes and toxins such as viruses, bacteria, fungi and algae compared to other biocides. The oxidizing potential of chlorine dioxide is higher than by using chlorine, therefore less chemical is required. Besides, chlorine dioxide can completely destroy biocide-resistant microbes.

Chlorine dioxide is obtained from sodium chlorite and hydrochloric acid. When the two components are mixed it is produced chlorine dioxide (oxidizing disinfectant), and harmless by-products: salt and water.

The advantages:

  • Effectively removes biofilm.
  • It is effective against bacteria in biofilm and free bacteria in water.
  • It is effective against bacteria and biofilm in dead ends where there’s no water flow.
  • Provides long-term residual effect in the system. CIO2 remains in water for several days.
  • Does not affect the smell and taste of water.
  • Is not sensitive to water pH.
  • Low costs for a full cycle of operation.

Application area:

  • Disinfection of drinking water - water utilities, enterprises.
  • Disinfection of process water - fight against biofilm.
